Clinic 3.0

3.0 Clinics are group lessons that focus heavily on stroke mechanics, rallying skills, net play, and serving.

TCSP uses the following criteria to define the average 3.0 player:

  • Groundstroke Skills: 3.0 players should be able to rally as follows:
    • 5-7 balls at a slow pace on a full 78′ court 
    • 4-5 balls at a medium pace on a full 78′ full court
    • Players can control the ball directionally at a slow pace with both FH and BH (cross-court & straight ahead).
    • Players are starting to incorporate either topspin or slice into primary groundstrokes and uses two different grips on FH & BH at least 50% of the time.
    • Players can shape the ball with height and depth variety 50% of the time.
  • Net Play:
    • Players volley in the service box but learning to approach/transition to the net and switching grips appropriately.
    • Players can track an overhead and place ball back into play from a contact above the head more than 50% of the time.
  • Serving:
    • Players can place more than 50% of 1st serves (medium pace) into play; 2nd serve is 70% dependable to start play.
    • Players can impart slice on serve but is less than 50% consistent with slice.
  • Tactics:
    • Players can score and play a competitive match including a tie-break format.
    • Players are learning basic tactics such as lobs, drop shots, and poach movement for doubles but are not comfortable executing in competition.

Intensive 3.0

We offer 4-Week Intensive Clinics for you to get a concentrated dose of instruction and progression on specific techniques and/or movement.
 
  • Choose Your Shots: Players that want to improve on specific shots will have the opportunity to develop the fundamentals of their chosen concept.
  • Four Week Cycles: We cycle through concepts every 4 weeks to give you a variety of options to choose from.
 
It’s imperative that players in these clinics attend all four clinics to get the maximum value from this format!

Tactics 3.0 Doubles

3.0 Doubles clinics will help you move as a doubles team, get to the net early, use chaos tactics such as depth, lobs, angles, and isolation. The primary formations covered at this level will be 1up-1back and 2up. Player requirements:
 
  • Rally a minimum of 4-5 balls crosscourt at a medium pace to take this class. Or 5-7 balls crosscourt at a slow pace.
  • Strong understanding of how to hit with a continental grip: slice backhands, volleys, 1⁄2 volleys, overheads, and lobs.
  • You will be expected to start a point using the serve and have some mastery over placement within the service box as well as spin.

Tactics 3.0 Singles

3.0 Singles clinics will help you use patterns of play and specific shot selection to construct points. You will explore playing styles and how to recognize a style and defend against it. There will be a heavy emphasis on the serve and return. Player requirements:
 
  • Rally a minimum of 4-5 balls both crosscourt and down-the-line at a medium pace to take this class.
  • You will be expected to also have some control over height, depth, and spin to execute patterned play.
  • You will be expected to serve to play points and have some mastery over placement within the service box as well as spin.

Ball Machine 2.0+

Ball Machine Clinics focus very heavily on groundstrokes and are designed to help define the shape of your swing as well as work on footwork patterns.
 
  • Learn to hit defensively and offensively while incorporating both topspin and slice on your FH and BH.
  • Learn to use the Continental grip effectively for lobs, drop shots and drives for versatility.

Senior Drill & Play 3.0

Players over the age of 65 will find this class a nice balance of instructional drills and light point play.
 
  • Work on your groundstrokes, volleys, and serves with TCSP staff, and then put those to work in fun point play drills and test if you’ve mastered the theme of the day!

3.0 Workout Classes

Cardio Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a high-energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise; delivering the ultimate, full-body, calorie-burning, aerobic workout.
 
  • Drills and circuits get the maximum out of players without the competitive pressure of playing against peers.
  • This is about the individual workout, while bonding and making new playing partners for life! You should expect to run and sweat for at least 75% of the 75 minute class.
 
Players must notify instructors of any health issues before starting the class and, if necessary, provide a doctor’s note regarding physical activity limitations.

Live Ball 3.0

Live Ball is all about the moment. It’s about enjoying a sport that we all have a passion for. Players of all varieties come out to play but there is one common thread: Everyone shows up ready to squeeze out every ounce of tennis they have in 75 minutes.
 
Live Ball 3.0 is a rating-restricted clinic for members rated at the 3.0 level. You can expect to play a lot of situational point play under the direction of a coach. Player expectations:
 
  • Rally 4-6 balls with directional control to be effective.
  • Ability to defend the forward position at net and volley offensively when opportunities present themselves at net.
Live Ball Etiquette:
  1. Players will treat one another with respect & kindness on and off the court. 
  2. Players will encourage and be positive towards other players. 
  3. Players will participate in drills with control and with player safety top of mind. 
  4. Players will participate in Live Ball from start to finish including warm-ups and ball pick-ups.  
  5. Players will respect the coaches and follow their instructions.
  6. Players will play within the rules of the game or drill as set forth by the coach(es). 
  7. Players will not coach or instruct other players while participating in drills. 
  8. Players will be considerate when calling lines and not try to win at all costs. 
  9. Players will track score accurately on their respective court’s game supporting the coaches in maintaining accuracy.
  10. Players will rotate in and out of drills expediently to maintain the flow of the drills.
  11. Players will use best efforts when participating at all times to help everyone on the court improve their tennis. 
  12. Players will not tank points or appear to not take point play and cooperative play seriously.

45-Minute Workouts

45-minute workouts are a great high-energy fitness activity that each focus on specific attributes for your game. Make the most out of your lunch break!
 
  • Groundstroke Grind- 45 minutes of groundstrokes to build consistency and feel the burn!
  • Serve Doctor- Fine tune your serve and add another weapon to your game!
  • Net Footwork- Get comfortable at the net to take your doubles and singles games to the next level!
  • Drill-N-Sweat- Combines point play and drilling for a high intensity workout
