Clinic 3.5

3.5 Clinics are group lessons that focus on tactics, net play, and serves.
 
TCSP uses the following criteria to define the average 3.5 player: 
 
  • Groundstroke Skills: 3.5 players should be able to rally as follows:
    • 7-10 balls on a 78′ full court with standard yellow ball
    • Players can control the ball directionally at a medium pace with both FH & BH (crosscourt & straight ahead).
    • Players can hit both FH & BH with either topspin or slice.
    • Players use two different grips on FH & BH more than 60% of the time.
    • Players can control shape of the ball with height an depth more than 60% of the time. 
  • Net Play:
    • Players volley with confidence and use Continental grip at least 75% of the time.
    • Players are mildly successful with transition from groundstroke to volley.
  • Serving:
    • Players can put more than 60% of 1st serves (medium pace) into play; 2nd serve is 70% dependable to start play.
    • Players can impart slice/kick on at least 50% of serves; can place serve at least 2 different locations.
  • Tactics:
    • Players can execute tactics in match play and understands when to attack or defend. 
    • Players can utilize the lob effectively in doubles play. 
    • Players are moderately comfortable using other tactics and 2-3 different doubles formations.

Intensive 3.5

TCSP offers 4-Week Intensive Clinics as a way for players to get a concentrated dose of instruction and progression on technique and/or movement.
 
  • Choose Your Shots: Players that want to improve on specific shots are afforded opportunities within their skill level to develop the fundamentals of their chosen concept.
  • Four Week Cycles: We cycle through concepts every 4 weeks to give you a variety of options to choose from.
 
It’s imperative that players in these clinics attend all four clinics to get the maximum value from this format!

Tactics 3.5 Doubles

3.5 Doubles clinics help players utilize patterns and chaos tactics to construct and control points. Teams will learn hand signaling, poaching, and isolating. Player requirements:
 
  • Rally a minimum of 4-6 balls crosscourt and down-the-line at a medium pace to take this class.
  • Strong understanding of how to hit with a continental grip: slice backhands, volleys, 1⁄2 volleys, overheads, and lobs.
  • You will be expected to start a point using the serve and have some mastery over placement within the service box as well as spin.

Tactics 3.5 Singles

3.5 Singles clinics help players explore how to maximize their style of play and which patterns fit their style. Players will also learn how to defend against other styles of play. There will be a heavy emphasis on the serve and return.
 
  • Rally a minimum of 5-7 balls both crosscourt and down-the-line at a medium pace to take this class.
  • You will be expected to also have some control over height, depth, and spin to execute patterned play. At a minimum, a player should have a dependable slice backhand.
  • You will be expected to serve to play points and have some mastery over placement within the service box as well as spin.

Ball Machine Clinic 2.0+

 
Ball Machine Clinics focus very heavily on groundstrokes and are designed to help define the shape of your swing as well as work on footwork patterns.
 
  • Learn to hit defensively and offensively while incorporating both topspin and slice on your FH and BH.
  • Learn to use the Continental grip effectively for lobs, drop shots and drives for versatility.

3.5 Workout Classes

Boot Camp

Boot Camp classes are designed for serious players dedicated to elevating their game to the next level. Boot Camp is for players rated 3.5 thru 5.0 who are looking for a hybrid of cardio and strength-conditioning, combined with fast-paced situational drilling, run very much like a college tennis team practice.
 
Players must notify instructors of any health issues before starting the class and, if necessary, provide a doctor’s note regarding physical activity limitations.

Cardio Tennis

Cardio Tennis is a high-energy fitness activity that combines the best features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercise; delivering the ultimate, full-body, calorie-burning, aerobic workout.
 
  • Drills and circuits get the maximum out of players without the competitive pressure of playing against peers.
  • This is about the individual workout, while bonding and making new playing partners for life! You should expect to run and sweat for at least 75% of the 75 minute class.
 
Players must notify instructors of any health issues before starting the class and, if necessary, provide a doctor’s note regarding physical activity limitations.

Live Ball 3.5

Live Ball is all about the moment. It’s about enjoying a sport that we all have a passion for. Players of all varieties come out to play but there is one common thread: Everyone shows up ready to squeeze out every ounce of tennis they have in 75 minutes.
 
Live Ball 3.5 is a rating-restricted clinic for TCSP members rated 3.5 to 4.0. Players can expect to play a lot of situational point play under the direction of a coach. Player requirements:
 
  • Rally 4-6 balls with directional control to be effective.
  • Ability to defend the forward position at net and volley offensively when opportunities present themselves at net.
 Live Ball Etiquette:
  1. Players will treat one another with respect & kindness on and off the court. 
  2. Players will encourage and be positive towards other players. 
  3. Players will participate in drills with control and with player safety top of mind. 
  4. Players will participate in Live Ball from start to finish including warm-ups and ball pick-ups.  
  5. Players will respect the coaches and follow their instructions.
  6. Players will play within the rules of the game or drill as set forth by the coach(es). 
  7. Players will not coach or instruct other players while participating in drills. 
  8. Players will be considerate when calling lines and not try to win at all costs. 
  9. Players will track score accurately on their respective court’s game supporting the coaches in maintaining accuracy.
  10. Players will rotate in and out of drills expediently to maintain the flow of the drills.
  11. Players will use best efforts when participating at all times to help everyone on the court improve their tennis. 
  12. Players will not tank points or appear to not take point play and cooperative play seriously.

45-Minute Workouts

45-minute workouts are a great high-energy fitness activity that each focus on specific attributes for your game. Make the most out of your lunch break!
 
  • Groundstroke Grind- 45 minutes of groundstrokes to build consistency and feel the burn!
  • Serve Doctor- Fine tune your serve and add another weapon to your game!
  • Net Footwork- Get comfortable at the net to take your doubles and singles games to the next level!
  • Drill-N-Sweat- Combines point play and drilling for a high intensity workout
