Red ball level trains juniors to become well-rounded, competent players with low compression balls.Your player will learn to judge ball depth and direction, use basic footwork patterns to establish balance, refine shapes on groundstrokes and serves. Gain directional awareness of the ball in defined spaces and the ability to move to the net. Working up to direction, action, and proper grip for the serve.

Red Ball 1.0

Prior to moving to the next level, the player will be able to:
 
  • Demonstrate a serve from a 36’ court to the correct side of the court consistently
  • Serve from the 27’ court (a serve could be thrown overhead or a bounce hit)
  • Short 2 -3 rally with a partner with a simple recovery between shots
  • Direct the ball away from an opponent and keep score (7 points).

Red Ball 3.0

Prior to moving to the next level, the player will have demonstrated:

  • Understanding of basic groundstroke and serve technique as well as grips and footwork patterns with balance.
  • Overhead serve to the correct side of the court consistently
  • Short rally with a partner with recovery between shot
  • Direct the ball away from the opponent and keep score and be able to make line calls.

Players are both physically and mentally prepared to begin work on the situational aspects of the game. This is a crucial stage of their development and as such, we require players in the group to attend two (2) classes per week. Placement in this group requires approval from Lead Pro and or Junior Tennis Director.

Red Ball 3.0 players must register for both Tuesday and Thursday classes.

  • Serve & Return Skills: Underhand and Overhand into correct box in proper position. Grip and court position.
