Ray Dalton

During his teenage years, TCSP member Ray Dalton found himself glued to the TV and captivated – watching Pete Sampras and Serena Williams compete! Seeing them play ignited a passion for tennis that keeps the sport on Ray’s “must-do” list every week. As it turns out, Ray is also filled with a passion for music and is successfully building a career and recreational life doing what he loves!

With an extremely demanding career as a recording artist, Ray is called all around the world by his ever growing number of professional recording and producing partners. When he finds himself with a break while on the road, he often searches for local clubs to investigate hitting opportunities. On a recent layover in Sweden, for example, Ray found a club named “Good to Great Tennis”, which was owned and operated by Magnus Norman, a renowned tennis coach and former ATP World #2 Singles Player. Ray reached out and ended up having breakfast and hitting with Magnus himself! Magnus and Ray shared stories of their experiences and quickly found a connection through tennis and music – some of the world’s most universal languages!

As a tennis player, Ray always has his game face on. When he’s on the court, you see and hear his focus and intensity. As an artist and acquaintance, you sense his warmth, humility, and genuine care for those around him. When you speak with him, you feel his kindness radiate.

Like the most challenging opponent, the music world demands the very most of us. Ray chooses to play off of the energy and teamwork involved in music and always grows from the challenges. Ray is a part of what he calls the “underground Hip Hop Culture” in Seattle, and he enjoyed a big “win” while writing hooks for local artists when he came across Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Ray wrote the hit “Can’t Hold Us” – the hook (or chorus) is actually Ray’s voice! Who hasn’t been held happily captive by that uplifting vocal!?

Ray attributes the scope of his accomplishments to the loving encouragement of his family. When asked why he finds his way back to TCSP, he expressed a love of the great community of old and new friends he finds here. Ray always finds reason to smile and recharge when he is playing tennis and has come to rely on the friendships he has built here. If encouragement from his family was his beginning, support from his friends and fans are helping carry him on his way.

There is no doubt this young artist is powerful, inspired and full of great words and music to share. And while you shouldn’t think twice about treating yourself to a sample of his music, you’d best be very careful if you are on the receiving end of his rifle forehand.
