Tennis Professional

Merritt Johnson joins the TCSP Junior Program bringing a wealth of coaching and playing experience over a 20-year career.

Merritt has worked as a tennis coach at several clubs on the east coast but none more significant than the 5 years as a high performance coach at College Park Tennis Club and the JTCC Academy. Working with players ranked nationally and internationally, Merritt gained tremendous insight to training at the highest levels on and off the court. As a traveling coach for JTCC, Merritt also helped players deal with the rigors of playing away from home and balancing their studies.

Merritt also worked at the college level spending one year as the assistant volunteer women's tennis coach at the University of Arizona and one year as an assistant volunteer coach for both teams at George Washington University. Merritt was twice named a Coach of the Year by the Washington Post during his time as the girls' head tennis coach of St. John's College High School in Washington D.C. The girls' teams won 8 of the 9 championship title matches under his guidance and finished with a record of 112-1.

As a player, Merritt played Division II tennis at Norfolk State University helping his team win the CIAA conference title his senior year. He played 2 years on the USTA Professional Satellite tour and continues to play competitively as an adult.

Certified with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) as a Professional juniors coach, TCSP is grateful to have Merritt's experience coaching our juniors.
